In Summer of 1974, after the Yom Kippur war, Cantor Chaim Adler was invited to appear befor congregations in Australia and Mexico in concerts of Israeli and liturgical music. During the war, Cantor Adler served more than 3 months with the Israel Defence Forces and was awarded the Active Combat Citation.
The mood of the nation and of world Jewry was gloomy, as was that of the soldier Chaim Adler. Nevertheless, in order to bolster the spirits of these audiences, Cantor Adler accepted the invitations and lent his outstanding, heartwarming tenor in selections of traditional, Israeli and Yiddish music.
Cantor Adler's selcetions dealt with Israel, Jerusalem, the Temple and Peace, with an undercureent of yearning for the Almighty.
The concert halls were filled to capacity. It was as thrilling experience to join the 1000 people who attended each concert, to absorb the atmosphere of the land and State of Israel as Cantor Adler swept the audience with his voice and faith.
Rave notices appeared in the Jewish press. A. Tzicart, critic of the widely circulated Australian Jewish News (Friday edition, 31 May 1974) acclaimed "the Israeli Singer Chaim Adler. At the outset, after only 2 or three numbers, it became clear that this cantor-singer was able to delight his listeners immediately. He makes closer contact with his audience than any other concert artist achieves after an entire program."
And from the Jewish Mexican newspaper Der Yid: "A great concert with Cantor Chaim Adler." The selection "Yibane Hamikdash" won 2nd prize in th 1970 Hassidic Song Festival. The selection "Avinu Shebashamaim" from the prayer for the Welfare of the State of Israel, written by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, was also performed at the 1971 Festival and is the first musical composition put to this special prayer.
This CD - taken from a full concert performance by Cantor Adler - was made to answer the demand of those listeners who have enjoyed such concerts in the past and who have requested the opportunity to hear the renditions again and again.
